Including a collection of both all-new tracks and alternate versions initially recorded during the Evolver sessions, Not Art is assembled loosely as a concept album that presents the band's recognition of the influence of Dadaist art on earlier electronic music. Not Art opens with four new tracks that evoke an early 90s-period retro/house approach, interspersed with spoken word samples. The net result is not typical dance music, but rather a soundtrack to the band's underlying vibe - and a departure of sorts from their recent and more accessible output. One notable exception is 'Identity Thieves', which employs crunchingly atmospheric guitars from Nerd Parade's Randy Garcia in an otherwise otherworldly stew of tribal downtempo elements and shimmering jazz house keys.
